Learning piano at any stage of life can be a deeply personal journey — but sometimes, it becomes something much more.
Stephen,
Thank you.
What you’ve done for me goes far beyond improving my playing.
You took the foundations I already had and transformed them into something stronger, clearer, and more meaningful. And now, I feel inspired to reach even higher — not just technically, but emotionally.
Because for me, music has always been about expression.
About invoking emotion, positivity, hope, passion, and inspiration — and now, I feel like I can truly share that with others in a deeper way.
Before this course, I had already done a lot of improvisational work. I could play. I could express myself in my own way. But something was missing.
Clarity.
Direction.
Confidence.
And through this journey with Ridley Academy, something shifted.
I feel like I’ve been given a deeper understanding — an enlightenment that has opened new doors for me creatively. And I can honestly say this: this girl is ready to soar into greater realms of musical expression.
I celebrated my 50th birthday in 2023.
And if I’m being honest… I didn’t feel excited.
I felt depressed.
Turning a literal half-century made me reflect on everything — what I had done, what I hadn’t done, what was still possible. It felt heavy.
But at the same time, I was reaching the end of this course.
And something unexpected happened.
Instead of feeling like something was ending… I felt like something was beginning.
This journey didn’t just teach me piano.
It reminded me of something I had forgotten — that I already had the gift. The artistry was always there.
But now, with your help and guidance, I feel like I can take it further than I ever imagined.
There are parts I will revisit. There are things I will continue to strengthen. But that’s part of the beauty of this process.
This isn’t an endpoint.
It’s a continuation.
A new level.
A new beginning.
What I feel now isn’t just progress — it’s hope.
A renewed sense that things can truly get better. That growth doesn’t stop. That expression can deepen the idea that I can give something meaningful to others through music.
Stephen, you didn’t just teach me.
You connected with me.
You helped me through some of the most difficult moments in my life — moments that felt impossible. And through that, you helped me believe in myself again.
I can’t fully express my gratitude, but I feel it deeply — in my playing, in my mindset, and in the way I now see what’s possible.
I don’t feel like I’m done.
I feel like I’m just getting started.
With more confidence.
More clarity.
More belief.
And a deeper understanding of what music can really be.
Thank you for everything you’ve given me.
I carry it with me — not just in my music, but in my life.
With love and respect,
Jayee Chapman
