Yesterday, I experienced something that felt small on the outside — but incredibly meaningful on the inside.
I played a little for a friend while she listened over the phone. That alone might not sound like much, but for me, it was a real breakthrough.
In the past, moments like that would fill me with anxiety. My hands would shake, my heart would race, and fear would take over. But this time, something was different.
“I wasn’t shaking or in a state of anxiety like before.”
And for the first time, I could truly feel how far I’ve come.
One of the most helpful suggestions I received was to start video recording myself — even when I make mistakes — and to share those videos without waiting for perfection. That idea alone changed my entire relationship with playing.
“Sending videos with mistakes helped me let go of fear.”
Instead of freezing, I played.
Instead of panicking, I breathed.
Instead of judging myself, I listened.
And something beautiful happened:
my confidence began to grow.
“I feel my confidence is improving.”
That feeling means everything to me.
Right now, I’m also participating in Stephen’s Challenge, and I’m preparing to send a group video on the 20th of us singing “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” I’m still practicing, of course — and I plan to send another video first so I can continue improving.
“I need to practice first — but I’m excited instead of scared.”
This journey has taught me that progress doesn’t come from being perfect.
It comes from showing up.
From trying.
From allowing yourself to be seen — even with mistakes.
I’m deeply grateful for the guidance, encouragement, and support that have helped me move from fear into confidence. What once felt impossible now feels peaceful… and even joyful.
And that, to me, is a win worth celebrating.
With gratitude,
Irina Arabei
